OSTEOPATHY
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy takes a whole-body approach to health. Recognizing when one part of the body is restricting movement, it can influence the function of the whole. Using of a series of hands-on techniques, osteopathy releases tension, improves mobility, and supports the body’s natural ability to heal and self-regulate.
Osteopaths work with the body’s interconnected systems, including the musculoskeletal, visceral (organ), fascial, cranial, lymphatic, and nervous systems. Together, they restore balance and communication between all tissues. Treatment is tailored to each person by addressing both symptoms and their underlying causes.
Every system in the body is linked and tension in an internal organ can sometimes create pain or tightness in the surrounding muscles or joints. This connection is known as a viscero-somatic reflex. This means that treating the organs and their related structures can often relieve pain or dysfunction elsewhere in the body. There are also somato-visceral reflexes. This is where tension or restriction in muscles and joints can influence the function of internal organs.
